Field with sunflowers on your way to Polmone

You can reach Polmone by car, car train (from Bruxelles) or by airplane in combination with car rental (fly-drive). Ryanair recently started flights from London (Stansted) to Perugia. From Perugia to Polmone is just 1 hour drive. From Perugia you leave the E45 at Marsciano-Collepepe and from there with a 30 minute drive you will arrive at Polmone. Because there is no public transport close to Polmone, we advise against coming without a car. Either from Leonardo da Vinci airport (Fiumicino) or Ciampino airport (Ryanair and Easyjet) at Rome it is a 2 hours drive (190 km). Leave the Autosole (highway A1) at Fabro and after a 45 minute drive you will get to Polmone. The last 3 kilometers you will drive an unpaved, but a good road. On the map the location of Polmone has been indicated with a yellow dot.

The closest settlement, called Pornello, is about 4 kilometers away. The closest house is on the next hill, about 700 meters away. It is possible to use the swimming pool of the nearby Borgo Poggiolo (about 1 km) for a small amount. In San Venanzo (a 15 minute drive by car) you can find the communal swimming pool, small shops and a good place to eat. In the nearby vicinity there are some good regional restaurants. The closest city is Marsciano (35 minutes), there is a market every Monday and there are several supermarkets.

Polmone is centrally located to various famous tourist locations like: Perugia (1 hour), Assisi (105 minutes) and Orvieto (45 minutes). It is a 2 hour drive to Rome or Florence. Some good suggestions in the neighbourhood are Montecastello di Vibio, a beautifully resructured village, where you can visit the smallest theatre of the world (La Concordia) and La Scarzuola at Montegiove, a monastry founded by St. Francis of Assisi in 1218, but bought by an eccentric architect in 1956, who has rebuilt it to a mystical city beyond your fantasy. In San Venanzo you can visit the vulcanic museum and in the region there are a lot of summer festivals with historic parades.

The hilly country around Polmone is great for adventurous wanderings, but there are also sign posted walks and you can make a trip with a local guide (on payment).
